SUMMARY

Responsible for the comprehensive accounting functions of specific Olefin’s manufacturing assets.  Duties include recording, reporting, analyzing, and communicating financial activity and results.  As a Senior Accountant, this person is expected to work with minimum supervision to become the financial and accounting expert in his/her area.  Characteristics required in this role include versatility, resourcefulness, and a willingness to accept prominent work assignments.     

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for the accounting of a specific manufacturing plant including complete ownership of the P&L, Manufacturing Statement and Balance Sheet accounts.
  • Preparation of monthly variance analysis and reporting packages for various Management teams.
  • Responsible for monthly forecasting and annual budget preparation.
  • Coordinate and support activities across locations and departments.
  • Manage multiple deadlines and respond quickly to management requests.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed desk procedures for respective areas of responsibility.
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to and effectiveness of internal control in own area of responsibility.
  • Communication and Billing responsibilities for some third-party customers
  • Compile financial data for corporate tax reporting to comply with federal state and government requirements.
  • Performs detailed analysis as needed on Joint Venture operations and recommends appropriate action.
  • Performs or assists in the invoicing of Joint Venture partners for services provided by Westlake.
  • Works and communicates regularly with Joint Venture personnel to insure complete information flows, adequate explanations on variances and ensure fair allocation of JV costs. 
  • Facilitate internal and external audit needs.
  • Research and application of technical US GAAP requirements.
  • Other duties and analysis as assigned by Division Controller.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with three plus years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting or 6 years in industry is required, preferably with experience in the chemical industry.   
  • Knowledge of cost accounting principles, financial statement preparation and analysis is required. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.  Must be comfortable presenting to Management and communicating results across multiple levels within the organization.
  • Ability to multi-task, meet tight deadlines, and perform meticulous self-review of work product for quality in a dynamic environment.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office including Excel.
  • Knowledge of SAP and BPC accounting systems preferred. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an open office concept.  Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.
