SUMMARY

This position is responsible for using laboratory equipment in a safe manner and following SOP, other analytical methods and procedures to conduct most routine analytical tests on epoxy resins and curing agents, and related products. These analytical instruments include, GPC, GC, GC/MS, HPLC, and other instruments.  The job is located in Stafford, Texas. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Follow written SOP and analytical methods or other test methods as supplied, operate various types of analytical and testing instrument including GPC, GC, HPLC.  Conduct and support method developments.
  • Perform all duties and work in a safe manner; create a safe environment in the work place
  • Generate reliable and repeatable data in the lab
  • Communicate data/results precisely and clearly.
  • Support innovation, sustainability, product/process development & improvement through collaboration and team effort
  • Follow any special instructions/assignment of laboratory superintendent as to testing, retesting, special testing, and reporting.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, reporting any problems and/or problem areas to supervision.  
  • Maintain calibration and preventative maintenance database.  Perform maintenance as needed to ensure proper operations of analytical equipment.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes to help improve analytical operating procedures or other lab policies.
  • Anticipate and restock inventory of consumable supplies prior to depletion.
  • Whenever appropriate, promptly report Safety, Health or Environmental incidents or issues to management so the situation can be corrected. 
  • Wear required PPE for a given task.  
  • Follow Company policies and programs including all HSE policies and procedures.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two-year college degree in a chemistry field or +2 years of experience in use of analytical instruments, with GC or GPC, or HPLC.
  • 4-year college degree in chemistry is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS                                                                                                                               

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 5 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Significant digital dexterity, e.g. using computer keyboard is required. Use of oral communication to perform work is required.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an open office concept. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.
