I&E Technician

SUMMARY

Provide the instrumentation and electrical knowledge and skills to perform the preventive and repair maintenance to the facility equipment in a safe, economical and environmentally sound manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform calibration, repair and integrity checks of process instrumentation and electrical equipment to assure that accuracy, functionality, and reliability are within acceptable limits.
  • Implement and document a preventative and predictive maintenance schedule for process instrumentation and industrial electrical equipment that assures a high on-stream time.
  • Provide technical assistance to production and engineering groups on application of new and modification of existing process instrumentation.
  • Maintain, update, report, requisition, and document the instrument/electrical department records and resources to assure availability and dependability of test equipment, tools, spare parts, outside repairs, specifications, equipment history, vendor resources, and library resources.
  • Continuously improve by staying informed and educated on current safety, technical, and quality practices.
  • Support the continuous operation of the plant by being available outside of regular scheduled work hours.
  • Provide on-the-job training to other I/E technicians and to those deemed appropriate by management.
  • Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environment
  • Reports injuries, incidents and hazards to unit supervision as soon as reasonably possible.
  • Conducts tasks with appropriate PPE as assigned.
  • Responsible for personal safety and that of fellow employees.
  • Provide attention to detail and dedication to work in order to ensure reliability of the work site as well as high quality product.
  • Practice, participate and support the plant’s health, safety and housekeeping policies, procedures and processes to create and maintain an orderly, safe, and healthy work environment.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.  Certificate from an approved Instrument/Electrical school is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an industrial plant experience; technical training with a science background or equivalent is preferred; good working knowledge of equipment, materials, techniques, and safeguards in respective discipline for maintenance and construction of a continuous process chemical plant; basic knowledge of fluid dynamics and process control. 
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings; a high mechanical aptitude and the ability to comprehend and apply information in technical service manuals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good computer skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, climb, kneel, squat/bend, push/pull; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate when working inside, however, some of the work may be required in the operating units which mandates usage of required PPE and safety equipment including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harness, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs.  Travel may occasionally be required.
