Maintenance - Superintendent
Job Description
SUMMARY
The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for the overall safety, environmental, quality, productivity and cost management of the maintenance effort in their assigned unit. Key areas of responsibility include KPI monitoring & management, management and adherence to the Work Management Process, management of unit turnarounds, maintenance cost analysis & improvement plans, 5-year major maintenance & capital planning, and overall maintenance and reliability improvement plans. This person will interface between operations, reliability engineering and the contract maintenance groups.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Support and drive accident prevention and environmental excellence.
* Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted in a safe and environmentally sound manner while adhering to all company policies and procedures.
* Participate in and promote continuous improvement.
* Responsible for keeping maintenance personnel abreast of advancing technology in diagnostic techniques, repair procedures and preventative measures to assure optimum performance at minimum cost.
* Provide leadership and coaching where necessary regarding all planning, scheduling and execution of routine, turnaround and outage maintenance work within the assigned work area.
* Provide leadership and support to drive development of detailed asset strategies for improved asset reliability.
* Ensure Root Cause Failure Analysis and/or troubleshooting procedures to solve repetitive equipment problems is being utilized.
* Drive improved productivity, quality of work, and cost control in area of responsibility.
* Monthly material and labor cost forecasting.
* Annual budgeting process, forecasting, and cost reporting functions.
* Participate and utilize various improvement or benchmarking projects as required.
* Ensure adherence to the established work management process.
* Support Maintenance Management with cost analysis & improvement plans
* Develop and maintain five (5) year maintenance and capital improvement plans.
* Assist with onboarding, training, and mentoring of new maintenance personnel on various maintenance systems.
* Implementation of contracting strategy cost control measures.
* Communicate and review Maintenance performance metrics and KPI’s with Maintenance and Operational personnel on a regular basis to improve understanding and to drive improved productivity and efficiencies.
* Responsible for the appraisals of performance of all Maintenance personnel.
* Ensure adherence to maintenance standards and procedures.
* Hold maintenance and contractor team accountable for precision installations and precision alignments
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
* Proven safety leader
* Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with 5 years’ experience or 10 years Operations and/or Maintenance experience in manufacturing.
* Previous experience in industrial chemical plant operations.
* A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.
* Experience in MS Office and SAP preferred or similar CMMS program.
* Knowledge of maintenance, planning and scheduling requirements.
* Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
