JOB SUMMARY 
The Machine Operator is responsible for safe operation of Granulating, material handling, extrusion, mobile equipment, and light maintenance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Comply with Westlake's Safety Policies and Procedures.  
  • Regular punctual attendance, timeliness, and scheduling flexibility. 
  • Provide safety leadership in promoting and creating a zero-injury safety culture. 
  • Operate equipment and machinery safely and efficiently. 
  • Set up and operate machines for routine established work. 
  • Process treatment of materials. 
  • Monitor and troubleshoot equipment for proper operation 
  • Use specialized equipment specific to profile extrusion, granulation, and recycling of plastics.
  • Help maintain a clean environment including all forms of housekeeping
  • Identify the material that is recyclable to process.  
  • Adjust, program, calibrate, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment. 
  • Accurately operate and devices. 
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned. 
  • Read, interpret, and measure parts for quality control and assurance (QA/QC).
  • Examine product for defects and correct them.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES  

  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude. 
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills. 
  • Ability to use basic computer software applications. 
  • Legible handwriting required. 
  • Ability to perform repetitive work. 
  • Ability to work and communicate within a team and assume multiple roles within a day.
  • Basic mathematical competencies up to and including some algebra 
  • Ability to follow step-by-step instructions. 
  • Ability to maintain focus and pay attention to detail. 
  • Manual skills to operate machines, tools, and move parts. 
  • Able to work unsupervised and be self-motivated.
  • Must be able to prioritize, stay focused, and handle multiple, diverse responsibilities. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to frequent changes. 
  • Ability to work an 8 to 12-hour shift.
  • Ability to report out and communicate in writing and verbal run status and daily run sheets.
  • Able to learn and retain product knowledge.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE 

  • Preferred experience in PVC profile extrusions and/or recycling.
  • Experience in plastics extrusion, compounding, or injection molding.
  • Prior years of experience in the field or related area. 
  • Background in mechanics and electrical. 
  • Experience in manufacturing is a plus. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook. 
  • High School or GED equivalent.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT 

The employee should possess the ability to: 

  • Be exposed to sounds or noise levels that may be uncomfortable. 
  • Withstand exposure to temperature extremes inside or out.  
  • Prolong standing or in stationary position.  
  • Complete repetitive movements. 
  • Bend and/or twist.  
  • Lift/move/transport items up to 50 pounds. 
  • Ability to move or traverse about the facilities. 
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders.
  • Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions. 
  • Wear all the required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision, and hardhat protection). 
  • Obtain and maintain a forklift and scissor lift license.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
