Job Description

SUMMARY

Manages the maintenance activities within a specific area or group so that optimum maintenance services are provided in a safe manner, at prescribed levels, and within accepted costs to ensure that production goals established by the Natrium plant and Westlake are attained.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensure a safe and healthful workplace through safety training and instruction of plant personnel and contractors, compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and good engineering practices.
  • Provide a work environment which promotes employee involvement by encouraging, recognizing and supporting individual contributions and initiatives.
  • Provide a quality maintenance service which meets customer requirements and eliminates defects; maintains operations to eliminate breakdown maintenance; and ensures that plant and divisional production objectives are attained.
  • Ensure that training and development of all assigned employees is carried out in an effective manner.
  • Coordinate and direct maintenance efforts to provide remedial and preventive maintenance at prescribed levels at optimum cost and ensure job performance and good labor relations within the framework of the labor agreement. Direct workforce to ensure work is performed in most efficient manner.
  • Optimize the maintenance effort within specific area or group of the plant to attain safety and production goals while managing resources and directing programs to ensure effective remedial, preventive and condition based maintenance.
  • Direct efforts of supervisor, planners, and engineers; supplying job priorities; ensuring breakdowns are investigated and analyzed for corrective measures and that recommended spare parts are stocked.  Work closely with operations supervisors to schedule maintenance activities and recommend required work all while managing to targeted maintenance and capital budgets.
  • Work closely with production and maintenance personnel to achieve compliance with maintenance programs and ensure a safe, reliable, and efficient facility.  This involves integrating activities that meet regulatory requirements and codes, as well as the development of new programs.   

Additional Duties

  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Fully supports Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teams.
  • Any additional responsibilities or tasks as assigned.
  • Perform duties in a manner that protects personal safety as well as the safety of others. Promptly report Safety, Health or Environmental issues or incidents to management.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.
  • BS/BA Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical field.
  • 8+ years maintenance/engineer experience in a chemical processing facility.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Strong computer skills required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office.  Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.  Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
