SUMMARY

This position will have a corporate leadership role for ensuring safe and reliable operation of manufacturing assets, driving continuous improvement toward 1st Quartile operational excellence.  The incumbent will work closely with site maintenance and reliability resources to make decisions and recommendations that follow industry-recognized engineering practices for fixed assets at North American manufacturing facilities.  The position requires a solid background in maintenance reliability, and/or operations and establishes metrics / reporting tools to ensure consistent communication of performance measures.  As a corporate-level position, the incumbent will remain connected with all manufacturing sites to identify best practices for sharing across the business through the Manufacturing Excellence Team.  The incumbent will develop corporate reliability policies for fixed equipment, including pressure vessels, storage tanks, boilers, heat exchangers, and reactors.  Acting as a subject matter expert in an advisory role, the incumbent will support root cause analysis investigations.  This position remains connected with IS, PSM, HSE, and Digital organizations to provide reliability perspective and achieve mutual objectives.  This position will concentrate on our VCM / Olefins plants in the United States.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environmental, health & safety.
  • Drive industry accepted best practices and sharing of lessons learned across all sites.
  • Engage with the Corporate Process Engineering group during initial equipment design to maximize the use of common spares and optimal materials of construction selection.
  • Visit and understand the processes & equipment in all of the North American Westlake plants.  Develop strong relationships with site maintenance and reliability personnel.
  • Prepare monthly and other reports required to keep management informed on progress of projects, improvements made and other items as necessary.
  • Act as the National Board Certified Inspection Supervisor for the Aberdeen, MS pressure vessel inspections. 
  • Develop a reliability improvement plan for each of the VCM and Chlor-Alkali plants.
  • Working with the Digital Office, develop Asset Performance Management (APM) and predictive analytics models to drive from reactive to prescriptive maintenance methodologies.
  • Assist with PSM audits and update corporate reliability procedures/policies to address leading indicators for HSE and reliability issues.
  • Assist in the implementation of PSM mechanical integrity requirements for manufacturing sites. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Must obtain API 510, 570, and 653 certifications.  PE and CMRP are a plus.
  • Minimum 12 years of reliability/maintenance engineering and/or operations experience, preferably with at least five years managing teams of professionals / supervisors.
  • Must possess or obtain National Board Inservice Inspection Credential, acting as the Inspection Supervisor for the Aberdeen, MS site.
  • Experience with SAP Plant Maintenance (ECC and/or S/4 HANA) is preferred.
  • Significant experience with stationary equipment is required; knowledge of NDE, shop processes, ASME/API code, corrosion and metallurgy.
  • Familiar with OSHA’s process safety management standard regarding mechanical integrity.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Proficient computer skills, with good working knowledge of all standard company applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Self-directed and motivated
  • Good leadership skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions based upon technical information.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Additionally, this position must make general decisions requiring judgement and perform activities requiring sustained concentration.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate when working in an office, however, some of the work may be required in the operating units which mandates usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.  Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.

WORK LOCATION

If an internal candidate is chosen, that person will be allowed to remain at his / her current work location.  Preferred locations would be in the Lake Charles, Plaquemine, or Geismar plants.  This person will be required to travel to all PEM plant locations in the United States.
