SUMMARY

Shift Supervisors directly supervise 6 to 14 employees in the operations department. Supervisors are responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of unit operators. A Shift Supervisor is responsible for 2 operating shifts.  The supervisor works a rotating schedule that aligns with the operators’ four-on four-off schedule.  The supervisor schedule is day shift only.

Supervisors carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Their responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, performance reviews, discipline, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Job responsibilities can include all functions necessary to direct, maintain, plan and manage plant operations.  Supervisors are required to interface with engineering, plant leadership, maintenance and vendors to ensure operation objectives and efficient operations are realized.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Evaluates amounts of raw materials required for operations, based on production schedules

  • Interfaces with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met

  • Inspects and measures products to verify conformance to specifications

  • Directs workers in adjusting operations and equipment to ensure products meet customer standards

  • Develops, recommends, and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product

  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department or work crew

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems

  • Maintains time and production records

  • Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.

  • Supervises operators while on shift, monitoring safety and environmental compliance

  • Maintains document control for specific areas on all documents used by operations

  • Issues permits as needed, including Hot Work, Confined Space, Work Permits, Line Break, etc.

  • Provides written/verbal communication to operators when necessary

  • Initiates/monitors operator training as needed, including new and refresher training

  • Writes maintenance work orders to repair equipment when needed

  • Ensures product integrity by taking action to correct abnormal situations which affect product quality

  • Leads interactive safety program and encourages strong employee participation in Company PACE program

  • Publish daily production reports

  • SAP production data entry

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four (4) year engineering degree (Chemical, Mechanical)

  • 2+ years manufacturing experience and strong operational background

  • Authorization to work permanently in the US.

  • Proficiency with Windows based software (specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint)

  • Ability to research/resolve problems or issues in a timely manner

  • Ability to work independently to resolve issues or problems on a day-to-day basis

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US markets. The base pay range for this position is $90,000 to $145,000. This range is based on relevant market data in our lowest and highest geographic markets. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, experience and skillset. Westlake is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, sign on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package (also to include a full range of medical and other benefits.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment varies as there is both work required in the office and out in the plant and process areas.  Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.  Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
