SUMMARY

We are seeking a Tooling Engineer to play a pivotal role in tool development to manufacture customer focused products across our twelve Westlake Royal Building Products plants. As the division-wide Tooling Engineer, you will lead the charge in tooling technology and trends for design and manufacturing. This is a fully onsite role at our Elkland, PA facility with some flexibility for remote work when needed, and will require up to 50% travel to our other facilities in PA, TN, VA, MA, OH, NC, MI, IN and Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Spearhead tool design and development for new products focusing on profitability, keeping up with tooling technology, and extending usable life of tooling.
  • Enhance existing tool designs, provide technical support, lead tooling reviews, develop project plans, and attend trials.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define clear priorities and project objectives aligned with organizational goals.
  • Work with tool vendors, purchasing, engineering and operations to provide tool costs giving the best value and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Serve as the division-wide Tooling Expert, providing invaluable guidance to process technicians, visit plants and tool shops to provide support and evaluate operations.
  • Lead evaluation of engineering change requests, apply advanced engineering principles to effectively troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges, ensuring uninterrupted operations.
  • Develop, review, and maintain crucial documentation, files, procedures, drawings, timelines, tool signoffs, end of tool life forms, and trial reports.
  • Optimize equipment performance through the implementation of robust tool designs, enhancing overall operational efficiency.
  • Write technical and business documents, presentations, and correspondence, taking knowledge and condensing information for clear concise reports.
  • Evaluate equipment and operations for potential safety and health hazards and work with plant to eliminate hazards.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or comparable field with a minimum 2 years’ experience in functional role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for technical documentation and effective interaction.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with effective troubleshooting and resolution of technical challenges.
  • Strong understanding and ability in 2D and 3D CAD software design tools.
  • Knowledge of drafting and specification standards to review production ready documentation.
  • Self-directed, independent worker.
  • Injection molding experience, plastics background preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Valid driver’s license required. Additionally, this position must make general decisions requiring judgement and perform activities requiring sustained concentration.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate when working in an office, however, some of the work may be required in the operating units which mandates usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.  Travel up to 50%, will vary with stage of projects.
